SUITABILITY: Cipher will be coming post-death, which means she'll have no reason not to engage with the setting. She will see being in Golden Peacock as a quasi-afterlife prior to her real afterlife and enjoy herself to the fullest amount. She is a hedonist and an adrenaline junkie so being in a place as lush and exciting at the Golden Peacock will be a delight for her. Sex, as well, is just part of that and so she'll enjoy engaging in it with the other characters.

HISTORY:

AMPHOREUS: Cipher comes from a planet named Amphoreus. Amphoreus is an isolated planet, hidden and impenetrable by most spacefaring people in Honkai: Star Rail. At the beginning of the Amphoreus arc, Amphoreus seems to be a greco-roman themed world with its own set of Gods that do not align to the Gods/Aeons of the worlds outside of it. Amphoreus and its residents are stuck in the middle of a world ending crisis that can only be solved by killing their Gods, inheriting their powers, and resetting the world into a new age called the Era Nova. This is what they've been told in a prophecy.

The reality is that Amphoreus is a computer simulation that's been trapped in an eternal recurrence for 33,550,336 loops. Initially, Amphoreus was created to nurture these Gods and craft them into beings of Destruction in order to gain the attention of the Aeon of Destruction. At one point, the programs in these cycles — i.e. the characters of Amphoreus — became self-aware over their doomed existence and break the simulation by forcing the eternal recurrence where the characters are forced to live out the prophecy from earlier, striving to reach Era Nova but failing each time before the recurrence resets. This was with the aim to keep the characters in stagnation until someone from outside of Amphoreus could come and save them.

If none of this makes sense, here is a timeline that sort of clarifies it. This too.

CIPHER: But what does this have to do with Cipher? Nothing! Except for the fact that she is a computer program, and she does not know this. Cipher is coming from the 33,550,336th eternal recurrence. There is no clear information if every recurrence starts the same for Cipher or has the same life events. So, this will just consist of the events from the 33,550,336th recurrence as we know them. There is not much known about Cipher's birth but what is known is that at some point she was taken in by an old woman who she called her grandmother. Cipher truly believed this woman to be her grandmother and the grandmother let Cipher believe this lie. They lived together until Cipher was caught stealing and in order to save Cipher, the grandmother disavowed her — admitting to the guards that they were not family, and she was a stray. From there, Cipher ran away in order not to be caught and has been on the run since. In truth, the guards did not want her for stealing but because of the golden blood she carries as a Chrysos Heir.

After this, as a child, Cipher became very good at being a thief. This how she sustained herself and kept herself alive. During this time, she met Aglaea, pawning off her goods to Aglaea in exchange for clothes. Aglaea let Cipher do this and kept an eye on her until she found out about Cipher's golden blood. From then, Aglaea invited her into her home and the two lived together as family for a long, long time. During this time, Cipher tricked Zagreus, the God of Trickery, into giving her his divinity and became the Demigod of Trickery in turn. She also lied and told everyone she killed Zagreus when in reality, she helped him hide his identity and live among them. So far, Cipher had a peaceful life until she decided to go undercover in the priesthood in order to steal their valuables.

It's while posing as a priest that Cipher hears an unfortunate truth: the Dawn Device, which keeps the city of Okhema safe from the apocalyptic Black Tide that has ruined the rest of Amphoreus, is set to stop working after 300 years. Cipher, using her abilities as the Demigod of Trickery, spins a lie that the Dawn Device will actually work forever, and spreads this lie, thus saving Okhema in the process. But the stress of such a massive lie forces her to run away from Aglaea and Okhema in general, too scared she'll slip up in her lie and cause the end of the world as a result.

This is Cipher's life for the next thousand years — never having a home, never returning to Okhema, and avoiding the Chrysos Heirs that she considered her family. She keeps away from Okhema until the more recent events in canon where she's asked by Aglaea to come help the Trailblazer and Castorice travel to a hidden city after the death of another Chrysos Heir leaves them unable to travel how they normally would. Cipher does help, and this is what puts her back into contact with the Chrysos Heirs. After a few other events, Aglaea dies, which causes Cipher to return fully to the Chrysos Heirs and help Phainon, because of her sense of responsibility. Phainon entrusts Cipher to keep Kephale's coreflame safe from the Flame Reaver while he's gone from Okhema and she does, but in the process, the Flame Reaver kills her. This is where her story ends in the 33,550,336th eternal recurrence and where she will arrive at the Golden Peacock from.

ABILITIES:

DEMIGOD: Cipher is a demigod, which means she's stronger, faster, and generally more powerful than the average human.

CATGIRL: Cipher is a cat! She's got ears and a tail. No human ears, just cat ears. This very likely makes her a bit more animalistic? Who knows!

LIES BECOME REALITY: As the Demigod of Trickery, Cipher has an impressive ability where if she spins a lie, it becomes perceived as real through the power of suggestion and perception. The more people who believe her lie, the stronger it becomes. Her lies were powerful enough to prolong an apocalypse by 1000+ years, only crashing down once she died. It also comes out in small ways, if she gives someone an item that is one thing but tells them it's another, they'll perceive it to be what she tells them instead of the actual item that it is. She uses this ability to trick/scam people often.

SUPERSPEED/TELEPORTATION: One of the abilities she has as the Demigod of Trickery is the ability to run/teleport to another location faster than can be perceived. The way she triggers this is by flipping a coin and by the time the coin lands, she will have arrived at the location she is traveling to. It's a bit of a space-time warp thing.

VICES:

SELFISH: Cipher is at her core, a selfish cat. This is baked into her programming which has caused her prime drive to be desire and self-gratification. No matter how much she fights against it, how many choices she makes that rebel against her programming, she will still revert back when brought to her more basic instincts. It's her default way of thinking — how does this help me, what do I get out of this, why should I help, etc. That is what Cipher struggles with daily and her biggest vice as a result. She is capable of moving beyond it but it is more of a struggle for her than it is for other people.

LIAR: Cipher is a liar. She lies like she breathes, even when she does not need to. It's part of her instinct to lie, to get just out of situations or turn things around in her favor or even just for her own amusement. With lying being her biggest superpower, she abuses it regularly just for the fun of it. Cipher is also a very good liar. One character in the series, Aglaea, has the supernatural ability to tells lies from the truth and even she can't tell when Cipher is lying or not. Cipher just fully bodies her lies, making them feel real even when they're not which is why she's so good at lying. Is a lie really a lie when it's spoken as the truth? That's Cipher's trick.

COWARDICE: Cipher is also a coward. She avoids things that hurt her, things that are hard, things that challenge her. She has been running away from difficult things ever since she was a child and there's a good argument to be made that her leaving Okhema and the Chrysos Heirs after her lie about the Dawn Device is another form of cowardice even though it was also the only way to ensure the safety of her lie. Cipher hides her feelings and doesn't share anything honest with anyone which is definitely a form of cowardice that she hasn't been able to shake. She considers herself independent and a "lone wolf" type but that's only to hide her loneliness and fear of emotional vulnerability.

VIRTUES:

ALTRUISTIC: After many, many, many lifetimes, Cipher's programming has changed to make altruism something incredibly important to her. She wants to give to the people, help others, and generally be a good person. It aches at her like a longing she can't get rid of, making her feel conflicted because what she's good at in her opinion, is lying, thieving, and being selfish. But what she wants is the opposite of that. She bemoans this to Aglaea as a child and this insecurity has stayed with her into adulthood. She is altruistic, her instincts and desires have shifted to do good. But she is also eternally conflicted by her core programming that tells her to be selfish instead.

HERO / SELF-SACRIFICIAL: In addition to her altruism, there is heroism in Cipher. She wants not just to be a good person, but to save people. It's why when faced with a crisis like the Dawn Device's extinction, there was only one thing she could do in response — use her powers to save the world at the cost of her own security, stability, and friendships. She knew she would not be able to return to her normal life if she spun such a massive lie and yet she also knew this was her one chance to do something good for the people of Amphoreus, to save their lives and to be the hero. In addition to this, she cares for orphans in Amphoreus (who she calls "kittens") and has a tendency to involve herself when she shouldn't — despite how much she tries to put on a pretense of being uninvolved and selfish.

FUN-LOVING: Cipher is also just here to have a good time. She doesn't take things too seriously, tries her best to keep the mood light, and enjoys herself. During the Seal Slammers event, even as she stole the trophy for the competition — she knew the stakes weren't high and just played her part to amuse the audience and herself. She does many things like this, where she involves herself just to make things more fun and it's a core trait of hers to be the fun-loving rogue who has a good time. It's what makes her charismatic and enjoyable to be around for the others and also part of why she's associated with the Path of Elation.

SUIT REQUESTS:

CLUBS: As the demigod of trickery, Cipher deals in lies and secrets most of all. Because of her ability to shape reality with her lies, she plays on people's minds and what they perceive all the time. So, the clubs suit would really be fitting for her as it would finally be her mind being preyed upon instead of allowing her to prey on others. It also would encourage her already reckless and impulsive behavior to be worse and for her to act more on those impulses. She would also have her insecurities be at the forefront — her loneliness and her pain from being isolated for so long would dwell on her mind the most, which would make for interesting roleplay.

SPADES: Because of her programming, Cipher is supposed to be selfish and cruel. Yet over the course of the cycles and recurrences, Cipher has become an altruistic and selfless individual who wants to be a hero instead. Spades would make her revert back to her core programming and make her fight against it all over again. Cipher has been trying very hard to be "good" for a very long time and to have her suit force her hand would be an interesting thing to play out in the long term with her. It would erode her sense of goodness in a way that would have her regret any actions she took during her suit flare. The struggle would be a core part of her journey in the Golden Peacock.

RANK REQUESTS: I think narratively she'd make a fun Jack or Ace but honestly, I'm good with whatever you mods choose.
